L-R: Dr. Debra Krasinski with Dr. Stacy Kinirons
At this year’s PT convocation, Program Director Dr. Debra Clayton-Krasinski, PT, PhD, MS, initiated a new tradition: The Excellence in Teaching Award. The recipient is Dr. Stacy Kinirons, PT, PhD, MPH. Dr. Kinirons teaches the Gross Anatomy and Neuroscience courses. Additionally, she directs the teaching practicum courses, which give students the opportunity to mentor other PT students.
The award is presented to a faculty member who demonstrates “the heart of a great teacher who inspires and challenges students to strive for personal and professional excellence, exhibits a deep commitment to teaching, and uses innovative approaches to education that have a lasting impact.”
Dr. Krasinski described Dr. Kinirons, the first to receive the award, as “an insanely smart, wise and passionate teacher, mentor, cheerleader, life coach, and source of inspiration. She has a strong political voice and fights for equality for all”.
Student comments on her consistently high course evaluations include “I will take away a lot of life lessons,” “… she read us philosophical quotes and emailed us words of encouragement the night before an exam”, “mentorship is lifting a person’s vision to higher sights,” “she makes each of us feel loved,” and “thank you for giving me the courage to face my fears and inspiring me to be more.”
“I am thankful for having been recognized for my passion and commitment to teaching,” said Dr. Kinirons. “However, I have the most gratitude for having found a path in life that I love…I love what I do because of the students.”
