Research Initiatives

Approximately 25% to 30% of the class each year takes the research practicum elective for a more comprehensive research experience. This group of students present during Research Day during the fall semester of Year III and many also present a poster during the Combined Sections Meeting of the APTA held February of each year. The Class of 2013 students participating in this experience showcased the following research initiatives:

  • Balance Ability: A Factor of Falls and Prosthetic Function in Adults with Leg Amputations
  • Pregnancy Related Lumbopelvic Pain
  • Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Perspective: A Pilot Study of Patient and Therapist Perspective Comparison
  • Physical Therapy in Spinal Muscular Atrophy: Needs Assessment
  • Effects of Manual Task Complexity on Gait Parameters in School-Aged Children and Adults Using the GAITRite(R) Electronic Walkway: A Pilot Study (2 concurrent research initiatives)

The program recruits outstanding students with rich and diverse backgrounds as evidenced by the following facts and figures. See also composites for Classes of 2016, 2017 and 2018.
